day 5

Buena tarde a todos,

My morning started great! I went to Althaia veterinary hospital again and I was able to watch a surgery! :) The cat needed to be castrated and he his eye needed to be checked out. William started with the castration. He did these a lot and it only took him 15 minutes to remove both balls. The first thing he did was cut open the scrotum and expose the ball. Then he clammed the end of the ball with a pair of forceps. Then he tied down the ball with a suture and attached another pair of forceps. He took a blade and cutted between the two pairs of forceps and the ball was off. Then he began the surgery of the eye. The eyelids of the cat's left eye weren't developed enough and therefore the eye kept getting infected. William checked if the eye was working and unfortunatly, it didn't. This ment that the eyeball had to be removed, however (unfortunatly) this didn't happen because the owner of the cat didn't want that. William removed infected tissue from the eye and then closed him up. He was a little upset that the owner didn't gave him the permission to do the thing that was best for the cat. 

After that, William, Luna and Pilar went home. I was again left alone with Paula and we had a lot of fun. We didn't had any work to be done, so we started to do some random useless things like turn around cans of dog food, so that the labels were all facing the same way. Then at 5 o'clock Pilar and William returned and we got a few more patients. There was one guy with newly born puppies and he wanted to make sure they were okay. The puppies were very cute but unfortunately I couldn't take any pictures of them because the battery of my phone was empty. 

When I was done working, I walked around Altea to find some Geocaches for my mom. I wasn't able to find the first one I was looking for, however I did find the other one, which took me quite a while, but it was worth it because it made my mom very happy :).
