Day 17

21 juli 2018 - Kyoto, Japan

The reason I brought my dad with me to Japan was so that he could make sure I would return home. And seriously, that was really necessary, because I absolutely do NOT want to go home tomorrow....

Okay maybe I do, but that's only because I miss my mom and my dogs :).

ANYWAYS, today was the last day in Kyoto and the last day of our trip in Japan, which is very unfortunate, because I am in love with this place and I will truly miss it when I am home again. I think I will be behaving more like Japanese people when I am home again, simply because I admire their way of living and I want to become as polite and patient as the Japanese people. But enough about that, I'll tell you how my day was:

So this morning we waited in the lobby again for our tour dude and this time he did show up (yay!). His name is Thom and he speaks 7 languages, which I think is pretty cool. We took the metro to the other side of Kyoto and we went to visit a lot of temples. We walked on the road of philosophy (which was named after a famous philosopher that used to walk this road every morning to get new ideas) and it was a very interesting walk. HOWEVER it was 39 degrees which did not only make me sweat a lot, but it also caused me a headache (which is still not gone btw). After an hour and a half we stopped at a restaurant to cool down and to have lunch. Thom took us to a restaurant which he goes to a lot and he let us taste some famous Okonomiyaki, which was surpisingly tasty. The owner of the restaurant was kind of obsessed with my phonecover (which I have bought a few days ago, it's from Pompompurin and it's really cute!) and when she saw the piercings in my ear she was extremely surprised and she looked at them for almost 3 minutes, just to figure out how many there were and how they were placed in my ear (and this were some very awkward 3 minutes, lol). Anyways, when we had cooled down a bit we started walking again and when we had fininshed the route 2 hours later, we took the bus to see the Nijo Castle. Thom was able to explain every little detail in both the castle and the temples and I was kind of fascinated by how much he knew about Japan. He also gave me some tips for my future education and he gave me advise about where to go live in Japan. (He recommended Sapporo, Hokkaido because it is less hot during summer and there are less insects).

After our tour was done, we went back to our hotel and took a shower. AND THEN we broke our toilet :) The staff of the hotel were not able to fix it, so we had to change rooms. First they bought us to a room a few floors higher than where we were, however the key to that room did not work. So the lady called some staff and they brought a new key, which also did not work. Then she had to look for another available room, and when she found one it turned out that those keys were not working either. Eventually the staff had found a room with a working set of keys, which happens to be a much more luxurious room as the one we had before. I'm not complaining :)

After we were settled down in our room we went to eat some dinner and now we are going to pack our bags for our flight tomorrow. And that was kind of it.

Maybe I will write another blog on the plane tomorrow if I get bored, so don't be surprised when I update 6 new Special Editions on the weirdness of Japan :)
