Pre-trip

5 april 2017 - Asten, Nederland

Hi everyone,

Finally! I've managed to organise my internship! I will be going to a vetenarian hospital in Altea, Alicante, Spain. After sending many emails to different kinds of international hospitals in Europe, I eventually found a hospital that was able to help me. Pilar (the head of the vetenarian hospital) seems like a very kind woman and I'm very pleased to be able to work with her. I was very happy to hear that I was able to do my internship at a hospital, because i've always been interested in medical things. However not everything was organised yet. I still had to find a place to sleep! I found this site with lots of host families all around the world. I contacted 5 hostfamilies in Altea, but there was only one familie where I thought "oh, they seem nice!". I had a small conversation with them I eventually decided that I wanted to stay at their place.

I'm already nervous for my internship, eventhough it's still 3 and a half weeks away. It's my first time traveling alone and it's also my first time in an aeroplain AND it's my first time in Spain. I'm also very nervous because i do not know anyone in Spain and I do not speak a word Spanish... let's just pray to God that spanish people speak English!

I'm not really looking forward to my internship yet. I like the idea of traveling on my own, but the timing isn't quite right. I'm very buisy training for the World Championships Taekwon-do, and without practicing a lot, i will not be able to win. Also I have 3 jobs, because if i have no money, i can't participate in the World Championships either. AND I need to study for school, because i really do not want to do this year again. It's nice to have a vacation once i a while, but I prefer staying home over wasting my time in Spain.

Anyway, I will tell you much more about my internship in Spain once I get there. I hope you will enjoy the stories of my adventure!

See you soon!

Anouk

Hi Anouk, wow, you managed to get an internship at a veterinarian hospital? Good job! With all the things going on, I can understand why you would have mixed feelings about going on this trip, but hopefully it will all be worth it. It's quite an experience, like you said! Wishing you lots of fun on your internship! Katja Storm

I am sure you will not be wasting your time there! Very exciting to do all these new things, but it will be a great experience!
